How can a Homeschool Coach help your teaching?

The world of education has seen a drastic shift these past few years, post-COVID. More and more families are choosing to homeschool their children than ever before. Homeschooling offers a multitude of benefits to parent and child, including one-on-one attention, individualized learning plans, real-world connections to content, strengthened parent-child bonds, increased engagement, parent control over content, and flexibility in pacing, learning styles, and interests.

However, if not done correctly, homeschooling can quickly become overwhelming for families and children can quickly fall behind in learning goals. As a public school teacher, each year I saw many instances of families that attempted to homeschool, but ended up back in public school because their children were falling behind. Many parents expressed the fact that they had few resources to help their child in learning struggles. Some children, by nature, will learn to read almost effortlessly. Many other children need specific supports and instruction to learn how to read.

Homeschool coaching can be a great way to learn how to address your child's specific educational needs while getting to continue to homeschool. You don't have to pass the teaching off to another adult. You can be your child's teacher! Homeschool coaching can give you the tools, guidance, and resources you need to be a successful homeschool teacher.

Here at Skill Spark Academy, homeschool coaching consists of three main parts. First, the homeschooling parent will receive an initial consultation meeting to determine what educational needs the parent or child has. Second, the homeschool coach will create an individualized teaching plan for the parent which may include specific skills to target, lesson guides, unit formatting, recommended testing, or other resources to help the parent. Lastly, the homeschool coach will follow up with the parent to see how the plan is working and make any additional adjustments and suggestions as needed.

If you are a homeschooling parent who is struggling, don't give up! Book a session with Skill Spark Academy today to learn how to improve your teaching at home even more. A well-educated parent is the best teacher a child could ever have.
